Droidcon 2010

One of the biggest events for Android developers and fans in Berlin.

We are looking for developers.

Now your smartphone recognizes your friends:

As a test for the FaceRecognition API on Samsungs “Wave”, TIC-mobile developed a prototype app which combines social networks and face recognition.

ICU enables the recognition of stored persons via video recording and the display of additional information connected to them. If the user points the camera of the smartphone at a person, the app identifies this person based on the stored profile pictures and recalls the last entries in the timeline of him. These data are displayed right next to the person’s portrait. It does not matter whether the person is recorded via profile or portrait view.

The identification is processed completely on the phone. Only to download the activity data from the timeline a network access is required. To meet the concept of the real time display of the person’s information we focused on process optimization using proven search algorithms and caching structures.

Interested in Bada development? On September 6th to September 8th 2010 TIC-mobile attends the MobileTech Conference in Mainz and gives lectures all around the Bada platform.

A2A – Apps to Automotive

Mobile phones are no longer the only hardware to run mobile applications on. Beside tablets, net-and notebooks also cars are a central hardware for the development of applications and services. Therefore, it is a logical consequence that this “mobile hardware” also is displayed in our Mobile Application ExpertiseTIC .

Based on the VW SDKs and supported by our partner FJORD, we recently developed a prototype in-car-app. In these app various vehicle information (eg. speed, distance to the next vehicle etc.) were recorded and processed adapted to the use case (such as driving, parking, standing, etc.).

Malte Prien presents the experiences made in this project on the A2A Conference on 22./23.06.10 in Stuttgart. Here, the possibilities for the integration of vehicles into the modern, mobile lifestyle are presented and discussed.

Droidcon 2010 – What a great time!

Yesterday, after two days of talks, live demos and discussions, the Droidcon ended in Berlin. On Mai 26th the event was opened with the Barcamp. In the Barcamp developers can discuss new ideas and experiences within spontaneous talk panels.

The developers of TIC-mobile gave lectures covering the themes „FroYo Cloud Backups“ and „Optimization for the Android Interface Definition Language (AIDL)“. This year an overwhelming number of visitors attended the Droidcon, so the participants of the talks even stood in the floors to follow the lectures.

In the entrance hall various representatives of the mobile branch presented their solutions applications and hardware.
Compared to the last years´ event there was a remarkable growth of Android-fans, which attended the Droidcon. The audience was made up of long time Android developers as well as of career changers and beginners – which shows that this operating system becomes more and more popular on the mobile platform market.

We are happy having attended and actively supported this focused event and are looking forward to the next Droidcon.
